Almost every day starts one of two ways: eating my scrumptious oatmeal or being miserable. I've eaten oatmeal virtually every day for the past 2 years, so some might even consider me an oatmeal connoisseur. Despite what most say about oatmeal being plain, bland, and gross, I firmly disagree. There is no better way to start the day than with a warm bowl of oatmeal. Considering my expertise, I thought I would share my take on oatmeal that adds an extra punch of protein to keep you full, satisfied, and glowing all morning long.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup of oatmeal (any kind you enjoy—quick, rolled, whatever works)
1 cup of whole milk
A dash of egg whites (any boxed egg whites work)
A handful of dark chocolate chips ( I love chocolate but add any toppings you love (blueberries, strawberries, maybe a dash of cinnamon if that's your jam)
Salt ( If you know anything about me, it's that I don't skimp on the salt)
Instructions:
Grab a pot and add in the whole milk and oatmeal on low heat for 3 minutes.
Make sure it's low heat! I can't tell you how many times I've burned my pots trying to make oatmeal in a rush. And don't get me started on the countless times my mom has freaked out over the blackened pot I couldn't manage to scrub clean after burning the milk.
2. Beat in the egg whites and continue on low heat for another 3 minutes.
The oatmeal will start to fluff up and look magical!
3. Remove the oatmeal from heat once you've reached your desired fluffy consistency and transfer it to your favorite breakfast plate/bowl to set you up for an amazing day.
4. Add toppings!
For me, this means some chocolate chips and a heavy dose of salt. For a normal person, I recommend any toppings you desire and a dash of salt.
5. Place the oatmeal in the freezer for about 2 minutes to quickly cool it down and give the oatmeal a nice texture.
Trust me on this one—the quick freeze is essential!
Now slow down, put your technology away, and enjoy your Morning Glow Oats!
Xoxo,
Everything I Want
